even sadder saddest picture ever
You know, I thought I won the prize with this picture, but I think this one may be the new king of the castle:
Then again, this is three pictures. So this is really the saddest triptych.
So I still win for saddest single picture.

I’m not letting this be sad, because what you seem to be missing is photos 4-6, where the photographer pulls up the grate, rescues the ducklings, and also finds three tiny, but healthy kittens down there. Along with some treasure. Not nearly as sad as Lil Brudder. He’s got the heart of a champion.

Also, maybe down the grate and around a corner is the secret headquarters of The Society for Destitute Orphan Boys, which turns out to be really cool secret society of underage pickpockets and burglars, with lots of ratty armchairs and fireplaces and cool kids that act pitiful around adults but secret relish their devil-may-care lives. And these boys take the ducklings and raise them as their mascots and feed them cheese-encrusted breadcrumbs and peanut-butters cookies forever. That would be less sad too.
Maybe they can take in Lil Brudder. He’s such a little trooper.
